My name is Annette Eley and I am the founder of Annette Designs. Over Christmas 2006 I underwent a course of radiotherapy at the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary following a lumpectomy. I was advised to wear loose fitting clothing or crop tops made of natural fibre to allow my skin to breathe. Oh, and the mantra in the department was spoil yourself!
It was Christmas; cotton tops were not “in season” in the shops, let alone cotton tops which gave support. I hate shopping and the trudge round the shops was something I really didn’t need right then. The cotton bras had wire in them and the non-wired bras were not made of cotton. I ended up taking the wire out of one of my daughter’s bras!
My radiotherapy nurse lived with the similar frustration of patients every day and she challenged me to solve the problem.
Over the next two years I completed much research on suitable products, particularly bras. During that time there had been innovations in the use of advanced textiles so I was able to put together a good choice of up-to-date high performance garments, all of which were fully trialled by radiotherapy patients. This remains our flagship collection.
As a bonus, it emerged that these same fabrics are ideal for people suffering from a range of other skin conditions.Over the past year I have extended the collection with the guidance of hospital professionals to help patients with a variety of requirements and am delighted by the response I have received.
I very much hope that you will find something comfortable. My intention is to save you the hard work and embarrassment that I suffered trying to find suitable garments. Now you really can spoil yourself!
